May is for Makers

By May 31, 2016June 3rd, 2016blog

I discovered this initiative on Instagram last night…May is for Makers. Lindsay at www.lrstitched.com and @lrstitched on IG has started it to shine a light on some of the amazing pattern designers we have in this world that perhaps we haven’t discovered yet, or just haven’t given a bit of credit to! Click on the image below and read her post to find out why she started this.

May Is For Makers | LRstitched.com

As I have been writing my own patterns over the last couple of years I TOTALLY understand how time consuming they are…. and how exciting it is to sell one!

So, join us in May by discovering, giving some pats on the back to and most of all buying patterns from small independent pattern designers.

I’ll be posting what I find / buy each Monday (Aussie time) on on Instagram and use the hashtag #mayisformakers so we can all find some great new patterns!

My first purchase was the Barrel Bag from Nicole Mallalieu (@mallawho on IG)

I can’t wait to put into good use the information Nicole gave us during her talk at #cottonfactoryunplugged about stabilisers and interfacing! Sounds like it would be a boring talk… but I was hanging on to every word.

My second purchase is the Hexie Framed quilt pattern by @emily_dennis_ on IG – I have a half hexie template that I have been wanting to play with and this pattern just looks great!

My third purchase is from @kelbysews on IG – she of the #hourbasket fame! She created this amazing and very useful basket that EVERYBODY downloaded the free pattern for and made. And she didn’t get a cent. So when she put out a pattern for a very modest $ amount that had the original pattern and 7 other sizes in it I thought it was time to pay up.

And my final purchase for #mayisformakers is from @libselliott called The Rebel Quilt. Quite a different style of quilt for me, but one I am itching to make. I think I will put some patterned fabric in there amongst some solids though…. it looks like there are some good large pieces that would showcase some great prints!

Thanks so much to Lindsey of @lrstitched for coming up with this initiative – I hope you have found some great patterns from some great designers!
