Progress and New Starts

By August 7, 2017blog

Lots of things have been happening in my craft room recently!

Firstly… a new sewing machine!! Woohoo! She is just beautiful (and fast and got lots of cool features!). I haven’t given her a name yet, hopefully one will come to me. And stay tuned for a review of the Janome 9400 QCP!

My Girt By Sea quilt along stalled a little last month. The round according to the pattern was supposed to be lots and lots of needle-turned circles…. I just couldn’t face any more hand sewing (I am still recovering from the EPP centre star!), so I decided I would do pieced hearts instead! (and thanks for @thefabrichusband for holding my quilts!)

I used the tutorial from Cluck Cluck Sew for the size that fitted and did more of the rainbow colours. I am really loving the rainbow! I can so understand now why so many people rainbowtise (is that a word?!?) everything!!

I have to get a move on and get the next round onto my girt by the 24th of this month! Gulp!

So while I was waiting for my new sewing machine to arrive, and my old one was still at the service shop having her annual day spa treatment (that turned out to be a lot more serious and longer than I had anticipated), I *might* have started a few new projects…..

Tula Pink Butterfly Quilt Sew Along

I have had this pattern for a while and a person in mind who it will be for, so when I saw that Angie (@gnomeangel) was going to have a sew along starting on the 1st August, I felt it was time to do it. But wow this is a big pattern and a big undertaking! Gulp. I have managed to cut out all the first week’s blocks, and sew a couple of them. I just could not resist those bears!!

My concern is I haven’t got a definitive fabric pull, just some vague colours and a few fabrics. I am going to be winging this one (haha, pun intended!). These are the sort of colours I am going to go with.

Snail Trail quilt in Horizon fabric

When I saw the tutorial by Jenny Doan from Missouri Star Quilt Company I knew exactly the fabric that would look great with it – Horizon by Kate Spain. That I might just happen to have a small stash of. *cough cough Layer cake, F8th bundle AND a jelly roll! This pattern is just using the layer cake.

This pattern is now all cut out waiting for it’s turn at the sewing machine!

The cutting instructions are great, these tiny bits are all that is left from the layer cake! I love a pattern that doesn’t have waste!

Sew Inn Fabric Challenge

Jane from Sew Inn (www.sew-inn.com.au) sent out two pieces of a recent fabric line (Tea-rrific by Quilting Treasures) to a few people and challenged us to make somethings from them.

As I was without a sewing machine and the deadline was the Friday I picked up my new machine, I was a little late, but I made a mug bag, mug rug, key fob and I even made a little tab for the tea bag! The fabric is really sweet! And some great fussy cutting opportunities in there.

The mug bag I made up as I went along. My friend Karen had given me one for my birthday this year so I took inspiration from that and made a few tweaks! I am still waiting on a clasp to keep the flap closed and I think the second one I will tweak the handle a bit more, but I love it! And the fabric was just perfect 🙂

Teddy Bear Cushion

I also finished one more teddy bear cushion this week – it is off to an auction to raise some money for a family facing a cancer battle. This one has a cute little bit of Tula Pink ribbon and Canyon fabric (by Kate Spain).

So as you can see I have been a little busy lately!

And still a few more secret squirrel projects going on in the background too. You know, in my spare time!!!
