The Fat Quarter Shop has released a gorgeous free quilt pattern called Stitches from the Heart and I was lucky enough to get a pre-release version so I could make one!
I had some gorgeous Ombre Confetti Metallic from Vanessa Christenson for MODA that was just begging to be used and this heart quilt seemed perfect for all these pinks and purples!
The pattern (which is available now from their website and their Jolly Jabber blog) is just sweet and a quick make.
It uses It’s Sew Emma’s triangle on a roll paper to make the HSTs (Half Square Triangles) and I really wanted to try these to see what they were like.
(I will be doing a review compared to my standard method of doing HSTs in a few days so stay tuned!)
The quilt can be made in two sizes – a 12″ x 12″ mini or a 35″ x 35″ wallhanging.
I chose to make the larger size…. and when it came to trimming the quilt to be 35″ square I decided not to (so I could have more quilting room!) and mine is 35″ x 37″.
The background is actually a dark navy Art Gallery solid called Nocturnal… the lighting on the day I took these pictures have made it look black eek!
From the moment I saw the pattern I knew I wanted to put some words into my quilting around it…. here is the word at the top of the heart
and then I did HOPE and DREAM along the two bottom edges of the quilt
And then I just had a ball doing lots of free motion quilting around it…. I am wanting to start playing around with some graffiti quilting but I must say it is easier when you have a bit of a plan!
I took this picture whilst I was putting the binding on and it shows one of the feathers from the back…. a gorgeous fabric from Ruby Star Society (all the heart eyes for this one!)
And a quick note about Pandi… the little Xmas bear in the photo… @thefabrichusband went to Spotlight (large crafty box store here in Australia) by himself to pick up something for me (yes, what a sweetie he is!) and he came home with Pandi the Xmas bear because as he said “he was sitting all alone on the 50% off rack because he had 2020 on his foot and nobody wanted him”…… awwwwww.
So that is my Stitches from the Heart…. a lovely quick heart quilty project, some fun quilting and a cute little bear <3
Go grab yourself the free pattern download or even a kit from the FQS and when you post on Instagram use the hashtag #FQSStitchesfromtheHeart
Can’t wait to see what everyone else does with this cute pattern!
