The Year That Was 2016

By January 1, 2017November 20th, 2017blog

What a jam-packed year of quilting and crafting and family and work and fun in 2016!

I love looking back on the year that has just gone and remembering the good, the not so good and all the makes finished!

And as a number loving person, I enjoy counting up the things that I created – my tally this year was:

  • 9 finished quilts (and 3 more that are with the long armer as I type)
  • 5 bags (including the infamous Amy Butler Weekender Bag)
  • 4 Maker’s Totes (and oh so many more to come in 2017!)
  • 8 cushions
  • 22 other makes such as hourbaskets, zippy pouches etc.

I am amazed that I managed to get all that done in a year with working (almost) full time!

Quilty Highlights

I was lucky enough to be included in the Acreage fabric blog tour in August and I loved making the Rise Quilt (and all the other extras!). I am going to be on another blog tour in February (for Blithe fabric which I just ADORE!) so stay tuned!

And I made the Road to Jarbo quilt pattern (by Moira @quilttalking) using Heartland Fabrics by Pat Bravo which came out a treat! If you are looking for a pretty easy pattern that packs a punch and shows off your favourite fabrics, this is it!

I released my second pattern this year too – the Jelly Roll Patch. A quick beginner or charity quilt in three sizes that uses up every piece of the jelly roll(s)! Below is a pic of the back of the smaller sized quilt.

A pattern that I had always itched to make is the Shortcake pattern by Cluck Cluck Sew. I finally made it out of Dayail by Bonnie and Camille and it was the first quilt that I got to keep in our house! (hehe…. it hasn’t been the last this year! My Farm Girl Vintage quilt which I have talked about ad-nauseum is the other that we got to keep!)

Our duck family has increased this year too! We now have 20 ducks! Mumma duck managed to hatch 13 ducklings sitting out under the rosemary hedge!

The Swell pattern by Camille in the Simply Retro book is a gorgeous quilt… I couldn’t come at making it scrappy and random, so I did a ‘tailored swell‘ using Figtree & Co’s Strawberry Fields Revisited fabric… I love this one but it went to a good home with my cousin and her first baby Ella 🙂

A few presents for friends and family members earlier in 2016 was the Black and White Plus Quilt and the Mermaid Quilt.

And I made a Dream Big quilt which hasn’t found a home as yet…… I am thinking I should put a hanger on the back and pop it up in my craft room!

The highlight of all my other ‘makes’ was my Amy Butler Weekender Bag…. oh my goodness that gave me so much satisfaction in completing…. and I have it sitting in my bedroom so I can see it every morning I wake up! If you are thinking about making one, I say GO FOR IT! We are a long time dead…. so do the things that make you happy 🙂
