Welcome to Week 7 of our Sew Along!
Hopefully by now you are all caught up and ready to do the quilting and binding of your Advent Calendars.
I am a bit behind with my Hello Darling calendar as life did it’s usual thing and got busy (why do we have to eat meals, be showered and wear clean clothes EVERY day?!? It takes up so much precious sewing time!) and being ill for two weeks with migraines wasn’t on the schedule either!
I have always done just some very basic quilting on the advent calendar as I want the fabrics and embellishments to speak the loudest. However there are some fun things you can do with the quilting.
On the calendar I made for @isabellagolightly26 I did some straight line sewing from each corner…. I was thinking light coming down from the stars in the sky onto the tree…..
I had been toying with the idea of using a variegated thread for the quilting on the outer border (behind the pockets) just for some fun. But I decided to play it safe and use a matching thread (maybe I’ll get adventurous on the Hello Darling calendar!). I used one of the decorative stitches on my new Daisy J sewing machine to help me get things quilted quicker. Pretty and subtle for behind the pockets 🙂 And then added some stars and outlined the tree and put some ‘tinsel’ on my tree too 🙂
Don’t forget to make the hangers to go on the back of your Advent Calendar before you sew on the binding! Makes it really easy to hang up using a piece of dowel and a wall hook.
Have fun with your quilting and binding. Stay tuned for the wrap up next week to see the final calendars!
