Icy Poles Sew Along – Penguin Party Quilt

By November 7, 2018July 25th, 2019blog, Icy Poles Sew Along

Thank you all so much for sewing along with everyone on the Icy Poles Sew Along!

This week I am showing you my finished Penguin Party Quilt! Woohoo…. I loved making this quilt! Those little penguins are just the cutest 🙂

Our resident ducks were very curious about the penguins… I had to struggle to keep them from coming up and walking on it!

I did a different free motion quilting motif on each of the penguins… it was fun testing out some new (to me) patterns on my Janome!

Some were more successful than others!

And then as the background quilting I did my favourite ‘ski tracks’…. organic wavy lines all over the place. Quick and easy and perfect for a penguin quilt!

I had this stunning butterfly print (Cotton + Steel) and the blues in it were just perfect with a small iceberg between them as the backing!

The Quilt Barn and view (and ducks) with my finished Penguin Party Quilt.

Next week hopefully I will be showing my finished North Stars Quilt (4 blocks quilted so far!)… keep your fingers crossed that life and work all get the memo that every spare moment is for quilting this week!

This quilt is one my fourth quarter Finishalongs #2018FAL  #2018FALSWL

  • What a cute finish and how fun that the ducks were so interested in the penguins. 🙂

I love this – and the pictures with the ducks made me smile! Congrats on a really cute finish. And thank you for playing along with us during the 2018 FAL!

I love it! I already bought the pattern and material and I didn’t think to use such bright colors! I bought flannel, winter colors. I have never quilted anything with so much detail so I hope it turns out okay. I’ve read the instructions over and over and am stumped on Page 13, Step 4. Figure 2. I can’t for the life of me figure out what I am looking at in Figure 2. I get that if will create HIBI, but I can’t understand the “picture” and layout in figure 2. Is the red dot the sew line? if I lay the 2 by 1 IBI along the white strip, right side together, why are there 2 rows of “black” and why are there 5 rows between leaving the 1/4 in between each IBI.
