HollyAnne Knight from StringandStory is hosting a sew along this US summer of some of the great patterns in the Make Modern Magazine digital booklet – Pretty Precuts!
If you aren’t a subscriber of Make Modern Magazine and already have this great additional digital booklet, you can purchase the stand alone digital copy of Pretty Precuts (it is $10AUD) with the link below (a small affiliate payment will come to me, you pay no difference in price)
My Rainbow Paint Can quilt pattern is in the Pretty Precuts magazine and uses 2/1″ strips (a jelly roll) and it is FUN!
The pattern explains a fun technique to piece and you can make a double sided quilt like the original above (and below, the back!)
Or you can make two quilt tops instead of a double sided quilt…. or, like HollyAnne, you can mix it up a bit!
Head on over to HollyAnne’s blog to read about what she did with the quilt and she has a fun video (I think she uses her hands to speak almost as much as I do!!!) explaining not only how she tweaked the original pattern but how to do some great quilting on the quilt top!
I had a ball on the original quilt finding colours to match each rainbow strip! (even back then my Aurifil collection was pretty amazing!)
My quilting on this one was before I had gotten into Free Motion Quilting at all, so I used the serpentine stitch on my domestic machine and my walking foot and it looked pretty cool.
I am now however, itching to make another Rainbow Paint Can quilt and get it on my longarm and have some full on free motion FUN!!
So grab your copy of Pretty Precuts from Make Modern Magazine and then head over to see what HollyAnne got up to!
