In my continuing goal to make a quilt for every member of my family – I realised that my mum’s 80th birthday in January this year was a perfect opportunity to give one to her!
Luckily I had stashed away a Sakura layer cake and jelly roll some time ago as the pinks and soft greens are just my mum’s colours!
I finally chose Emma Jean Jansen’s Bronte’s Star quilt pattern to showcase the fabrics.
I did modify Emma’s cutting instructions as I didn’t have fat quarters, just the jelly roll and layer cake! But got to the same pattern in the end 🙂
For the back I used the layer cake squares with a few blocks of smaller patchwork squares to break up the big squares.
The binding was the same background white with just the last few scraps of layer cake to use up all my scraps!
Quilting was a soft, easy loop all over which was pretty quick to do (thankfully as I was on a tight time frame for this!).
My mum loved it and is so pleased she can show people one of my quilts now when she is talking to others about all the quilting I do!
It is now on the single bed in my mum’s craft room / guest bedroom and it looks fab.
This is one of the very few items I managed to finish for my first quarter Finishalong #2018FAL #2018FALSWL
Beautiful quilt for your mom, and I can only imagine how proud she is to have it and be able to talk to people about you, your quilting, and show them your work. 🙂
I didn’t give her any grandchildren to brag about, but there are lots of quilts!! hehe!
