With the re-release of Nantucket Summer by Camille Roskelley for Moda Fabrics and that WONDERFUL swoon block print, I was just itching to make something!
But before I got into the new fabric, I went through my stash and found all the Nantucket Summer (and Shoreline and any other blue/green fabrics from Camille Roskelley) to see what I had to work with for new projects.

Ummmmm… I might have a little bit already! And what isn’t in this picture were a small pile of scrap cut offs from; I think my Edelweiss quilt (from the Shoreline collection). I really wanted to do something with them as well!
So I started sewing together the scraps into a patchwork of fabrics, none quite straight and just kept trimming them until they all fit together.

It kinda made me want to do this with my entire scrap drawers actually! It was fun and felt so good using up the scraps!
And at that point I decided I wanted to make another of my Zippy Project Bags! This is a free pattern (PDF available here) as well as a YouTube video tutorial.
And if you want to read about two others that I have made there are blog posts here and here.
So then I got out the Swoon block cheater print and drooled a little bit!

I cut 1/4″ away from the block edges all the way around… and discovered it isn’t quite square. The joys of being printed rather than made! I did manage to tweak the blocks a little bit and sewed six of them together to make the front panel of my Zippy Project Bag.

So with my front panel of the swoon blocks, top small panel (for above the zip) of various rectangles and the scrappy patchwork back all ready, I started doing some quilting.

I did some quilting around the centre star and then around the outside of the block on the swoon blocks. In between the swoon blocks there was a bit of fun negative space and I did a little bit of free motion in there (see picture down the bottom).
On the back patchwork I just did some straight line quilting (which did show up how NOT straight the scrappy patchwork was!!).
I chose a white zip and a navy dot for the binding and handle. On the back where the handles are attached, I covered these with some cut out centre stars from the Swoon panel just for fun.

And I had a cute little sailing boat zipper pull from Camille from the Nantucket collection last time that was just the perfect finishing touch to the front!

So now I have a beautiful Nantucket Summer Zippy Project Bag to hold all the other projects I want to make from this gorgeous collection.

At the time of writing this, there were still a few layer cakes and a few panels available to purchase.
