In my continuing quest to make a quilt for all my family members, the most recent recipient was Charlie, my father in law.
Ever since I was the Queen Bee last year and I received all those gorgeous red and black homebase blocks, I had it in mind that they would make a great quilt for Charlie.
Lots of good strong colours and he loves having a nap in the afternoons whilst listening to the footy!
The quilt top came together and I was really pleased with the secondary patterns.
White backgrounds, cream backgrounds, blocks of slightly different sizes… it all came together in the end! I added quite a few extra blocks to get it to the size I wanted and then it was a full on rush to get it finished in time to give it to him for his birthday in April 2017.
Basting quilts in our house is always a bit of ‘fun’… the kitchen table is the most used place in the house!
All rolled up (and even labelled!) ready for gifting.
Soooo happy how it came out with my straight line quilting across the quilt (that took a few hours!!)
And the Bonnie & Camille black bias striped Handmade for the binding was just the perfect choice…. am now realising I need to get more!
And here is the birthday boy himself – he had to have a snuggle under it straight away just to check it out!
This is part of my Quarter 2 Finish Along for #2017FAL #2017FALSWL
What a great quilt and plan you had for your bee blocks. The birthday boy looks so happy with the quilt; his smile says it all!
Thanks Yvonne! They are about to move into a retirement village so his new quilt will be a pop of colour!
This is a beautiful quilt! I have not tried these colors for a quilt, yet seeing yours and a few others; the color combination really keeps growing on me! Thank you for sharing and have a great day!
Thanks Brenda – they are striking colours but look great in real life 🙂 Would love to see one when you have a go!
