Sew Along – Week 3

By October 9, 2015May 4th, 2018blog

Welcome to week three of our sew along!

If you would like to join in the Sew Along, go and buy the pattern here and then read the previous posts to catch up 🙂

Hopefully by now you will have sewn your numbers onthttp://103.42.110.24/~saidwithlove/said-with-love-advent-calendar-sew-along/o the front of your pockets and made up at least one pocket for your Advent Calendar.

This week we are going to power through sewing up all the rest of the pockets and following the tip from last week (repeated below) also have the strips all sewn for our inner border!

Use the strips that make up your inner border as ‘leaders and enders’ which Lori Holt talks about on her blog (beeinmybonnetco.blogspot.com.au/2011/07/leaders-and-enders.html).  Basically this means that you have your pile of little strips that we are going to use in our border next to your sewing machine and then you grab two of them, right sides together, and include them in your chain sewing. Sew one lot of strips together, then one of your pockets, then another set of strips and so on and so forth. Before you know it you have all your strip pieces sewn together ready for week 4!

On making up my pockets this week I found that by sewing a generous 1/4″ seam along the bottom of the inner lining, the pockets folded up and ironed a little bit crisper 🙂

So if you have managed to finish all your pockets (yay you!) then go ahead and select some nice thick paper or card and print out the activity tags you want to use for your Advent Calendar.

The rest of us, not quite so quick people, will be sewing away getting all our pockets finished!
