Savannah Island Batiks

By June 29, 2022blog

My friend Tammy Silvers ( @tamarinis on Instagram) has released a new batik fabric collection with Island Batiks called Savannah!

The fabric is released in November 2022 but I am joining in with a few other bloggers and makers to show you what you can do with these stunning colours!

I re-created my Jelly Roll Patch quilt pattern using Savannah and it came up a treat! (The Jelly Roll Patch pattern can be purchased as a PDF download here) and requires one pack of 40 2.5″ strips plus 3 yards of background fabric for the sashings on the front and the background on the back plus 1/2 yard for binding.

The background colour is one of the Island Batik basics called Coconut, all the rest of the colours are from the Savannah collection.

I couldn’t decide whether to use the same Coconut background on the back side of the quilt (which is, of course, a double sided quilt!) or use a darker colour, so I created both in my EQ8 program! Here is the lighter background colour

But sometimes I just love switching things up a bit and using a darker colour on the back of the quilt. Here I used Sterling.

The Jelly Roll Patch pattern comes in three sizes, the Lap Size is 44″ x 66″ which is a great size for snuggling under reading a book.

And this pattern is my go-to pattern to make for the males in my life…. even if the patterned fabric is colourful, putting a darker background colour tones them down a little bit and they love them!

And because I couldn’t resist playing around in EQ8 a bit more, I mocked up my Charm Framed pattern using just a couple of the Savannah colours (normally you would use a 2.5″ strip pack) and it looks pretty awesome too!

I love the secondary patterns that my Charm Framed pattern creates depending on what fabrics you use for the corners! You can purchase the PDF Download of Charm Framed here.

So head on over to Tammy’s blog to find out more about the Savannah batik fabric collection and to see what all the other bloggers/makers have created!
