Little Miss Mermaid

By January 12, 2016November 20th, 2017blog

One of my girlfriend’s daughters wants to BE a mermaid! So when Cinderberries brought out the Saltwater line of fabric I knew I would be making a Mermaid quilt for our little Miss Mia 🙂

I was so very lucky enough to win a giveaway on IG from @janumny of a fat quarter bundle of Saltwater (thank you!!) and I bought a few more bits and pieces to finish the quilt.

The pattern is 6inch half square triangles (HSTs) that I just kept moving them around until I found a layout I liked. (Below is one of the first drafts that I didn’t like! Too busy and the fabric just wasn’t the star.)

I used some of the cheater fabric for part of the backing and pieced the rest and used my wavy line stitch (sort of like ocean waves?!) to quilt it.

Then I used a little bit of Aneela Hoey for the binding. I think it came up a treat and I can’t wait to give it to the little Mermaid 🙂
