I am using Tula Pink fabrics for my blocks and each block will be different. Read about my fabric choices and some tips here in this blog post.
Wow, the blocks for month 1 of the Barn Star Sampler QAL took a bit to do! Lots of Half Square triangles and yep, 117 pieces in each block! I made a video showing some tips for HSTs and other parts of the block here.
But oh boy, was it worth making them…. so good to get the first one finished! Here is my Block 1 A
Tula Pink fabrics, with a bit of fussy cutting for the centre square and I love the block!
I am using mostly fat quarters for this sewalong, so for the second of Block 1 I have used different fabrics.
This time I have fussy cut one of the painted roses from Tula Pink’s Curiouser and Curiouser collection! Here is my Block 1 B
And this time instead of using the 8 at a time method to make my HSTs, I used the Fat Quarter Shop’s 2″ HST triangles on a roll papers. These do take a little bit longer to make as on top of the sewing and trimming you do need to pull the papers out, but as my hubby did the cutting for me (my wrist isn’t quite up to that yet), it was quick for me!
There is this great pack of foundation papers made specially for the Barn Star Sampler Sewalong which I grabbed before Xmas – if you are a beginner or love doing foundation paper piecing for accuracy, this is the box for you! It has triangles on a roll in varying sizes as well as square in a square and flying geese pads.
