Boxes and Crosses and Hugs

By January 1, 2018blog

Waaaay back in April 2017 I made my friend Mia a quilt for her birthday and I was doing so many things at once back then I totally forgot to post pictures and the story behind the quilt!

The pattern is called Boxes and Crosses and is from Emma Jean Jansen’s book “By The Bundle” – it is a simple pattern but it looks great when finished! Simple square patchwork really does look great every.single.time 🙂

I used everything from my stash… I chose fabrics that had meaning for my friend and it was such fun fussy cutting a few of them so when she found them she would get a giggle!

It was to go in their bedroom so I kept it to blues and low volumes with a dash of pink from RiflePaper 🙂

Simple straight line quilting to keep to the simple theme and I love imagining Mia snuggling under the quilt after a long, tough day and getting a quilty hug from me!

Or maybe she and her husband and puppy dog can take it on a picnic in the park….

Or wrap themselves up on the porch reading a book or having a glass or two…….

Happy Birthday Mia!

Kathy, the book is great! Lots of different quilts all using Fat Quarter Bundles – Emma lives near me and some of the pictures in the book are just around the corner from my home! This pattern is an easy one… great to get you into your New Year’s sewing!

  • What a clever design and how fun to have surprises and details for her to look at and enjoy. I’m sure it will be treasured and loved (and has been already)!

Thanks Yvonne – it has been lovely to hear from my friend all the times she has snuggled her quilt and thought of me 🙂
