Our Show & Tell Quilt Sewalong is, sadly, finished now, but wow, what an amazing sewalong it was!
Putting the blocks together into a quilt top was pretty easy, the instructions in Elizabeth Hartman’s pattern were very good for this. I did, of course, swap things around on the middle row so that my left peeking fox fitted a bit better!
I decided that the quilt deserved the extra time to be custom quilted, so it was up on my longarm for three weeks!
The background (I used Moda Grunge, not the light coloured mochi linen that was in the Moda kit) I did a paisley feather meander pattern – inspired by Angela Walters recent feathers quiltalong.
Note: in this week’s video, I show how I do this motif on my longarm.
I managed to find an Aurifil thread colour in 50 weight that matched pretty much every part of the quilt (hehe, yes, I do have an EXTENSIVE Aurifil stash!).
However I was surprised to realise that I didn’t have a dark green that matched the background on the Flying Geese block. I have now addressed that lack, and the thread should be at the Quilt Barn soon!
I quilted the background first, stitching in the ditch around each block/animal as I went.
Then I worked on quilting the animals, each with ‘fur’ of a slightly different type.
Then it was finally time to start quilting each of the blocks. I think the time to quilt each was less than the time to decide WHAT to quilt each block was!!

Here are a few of my favourite blocks.
Across quite a few of the blocks I used some recurring motifs… the petal/flower in the centre of squares, the echo lines inside a triangle. This gives some continuity across the quilt, whilst still letting each block speak for themselves.
The binding has been made and is ready to be applied to the quilt and I will replace the photo below with a proper photo shoot once the binding is complete, however here is a temporary ‘final’ photo of the whole quilt!
