Circle of Peace Sewalong

By August 23, 2025November 17th, 2025blog

I am joining Kim ( @gogokim from Instagram) in a relaxed sewalong starting this Wednesday 27th August! She hasn’t been posting much on Instagram, and hasn’t been sewing much lately and she hoped that having a bit of community and getting back into the habit of sewing each day would help her deal with the crazy world we are living in these days.

This is Kim – and doesn’t her smile just make you feel welcome and make YOU smile?

Kim is calling it the Circle of Peace or Creative Resistance sewalong (whichever hashtag and vibe you are going for!) #circleofpeace or #creativeresistance and she is going to be make log cabin blocks but you can do log cabins or any other block type you like.

This is a VERY RELAXED sewalong!

When Kim first posted that she had been struggling to sew and to find those little snippets of joy in her day amidst the crazy world events that we are in, I really felt that too. Doom scrolling seem to be taking up more and more time of my day!

So I am joining in and sewing up some log cabin blocks!

I spent an enjoyable while perusing my stash and found these hilarious sewing sayings from a panel aaaages ago (it was called Sew Chatty Puns by Kelli Fannin for Riley Blake Designs back in 2020) and paired them with some honeybuns (1 & 1/2″ x WOF strips) from a collection called Sophie by Brenda Riddle Designs.

Very pretty fabrics and I have been wanting to find something to use up some honeybun rolls so this was perfect!

I also grabbed out a jelly roll as my initial thought was to put 2.5″ strips around the outside of the log cabin blocks to help them get a little larger, but it looked a little funky so I decided not to go forward with that (stay tuned on what I have used that jelly roll for coming up soon!).

So if you want to join in too and are on Instagram, start following Kim (@gogokim) and if you want to, also another Kim (@persimmondreams) and Kitty (@nightquilter) – they are also leading this relaxed sewalong.

I will be posting on Instagram and in our Facebook Sewalong and Quilting Group (feel free to join, just make sure you answer the 3 questions to get admitted to the group).

I have to say, I have been making these 8″ log cabin blocks each morning this week and it is SUCH a lovely way to start the day!

I am going scrappy and not the traditional light and dark sides of a the log cabin, so apart from not wanting two colours the same together or two of the same print, I am just picking from the strips next to my sewing machine and going for it!

And the sayings are cracking me up too!

And not only has it made the start to my day so much better, it has gotten me enthused about projects again and also starting some new projects! Stay tuned to find out more about those.
