Week 6 already! I have been having fun sewing up my blocks and also making the half sized blocks as mug rugs. How have you been going?

This week we are doing the last block, the Star Present Block. Next week we get onto the bows!
The scrappy star present has a LOT of pieces in it, but if you lay it out on a design board or table and just take it one row at a time, it isn’t too painful.
When I first looked at the pattern, I didn’t really like this block as I felt that there wasn’t enough contrast in the fabrics that Camille had used. But wow, when you select some good contrast between the stars and the background it looks great! Again I had to be a bit fussy with the direction of my fabric…. I think I managed to get all the angels up the right way!
When it came to working out the half sized version I very quickly realised that there were going to be lots of 1″ pieces in there! So I have given everyone an option of doing the three stars just like the larger block (with lots of small pieces), or to just do a single star block.
How are you going with your blocks? I have decided I am only going to have 4 blocks on each row of my quilt – I wanted a smaller quilt. So I have only made one of these blocks… see it really is a relaxed sew along! 🙂
