Project Sweetwater – Main Street Edition

By December 15, 2023blog

What a fun week leading up to Christmas – I have been getting so many gorgeous parcels! This time it was Project Sweetwater featuring the Main Street fabric collection.

They have introduced a new type of fabric cut for Sweetwater (though Moda has done these for a few other designers over the years). Check out the video to see all the fun!

If you remember, I made a round jelly roll rug with my early release jelly roll of Main Street (and I have a video showing me making it with the new Clover Fabric Tube Maker tool that helps so much! The FQS also stocks these if you aren’t in Australia!)

I really loved the colours of Main Street (and hopefully my brother will love his Xmas present!), so getting more of Main Street in the Project Sweetwater box was delightful! The desert roll of 10 strips 5″ x Width Of Fabric is jut lovely and there is lots you can do with this size pre cut.

And wow, that little basket pattern caught my eye….. so much so that I stopped, dropped and made it! (twice!)

I followed the pattern for the first one, though I didn’t add the handle as I decided I would use this as a wonder clip basket on my cutting table!

It is seriously cute! I love it. However there were a few tweaks I thought the pattern needed, so I made another one with my changes.

I sewed the label on further down the main body so that it was more centred when the scalloped cuff was turned over.

I made the seam allowance on the lining much bigger so that the lining wasn’t so bulky – this worked well on my second one.

I also quilted the outer base piece so that it sat a little flatter and neater. And did quite a bit more pressing / snipping of seam allowances to make it sit nice and flush.

When I make it a third time (yes, it really is THAT cute!) I will actually top stitch the scalloped edge… I think that would look lovely. And I might just add the handle on the third one to see how it looks. I’m thinking a little easter basket perhaps?

I believe that Sweetwater have opened up their Project Sweetwater Box subscriptions again – so if you are looking for a fun box to receive a few times a year, this is a lovely one!
