Another quilt top that was languishing in the ‘make a backing’ pile was the RSS summer sewalong quilt! I started this back in 2022 and whilst I made the quilt top reasonably quickly (amongst the sh*t show that was 2022), it just sat there staring at me for quite some time!
I had selected the fabrics I wanted to use on the backing, all the yellow and orange Kate Spain prints that were sitting waiting after a previous project (that used all the other less orangey prints 😂!)
A quick press of them, found one more yellow print from my B & C stash to make the correct size backing and then, voila! Another backing made. This one did take me a little longer than just sewing up two seams, but not that much more 😂 And wow, that is a LOT of orange!
This time I chose the lotus flower quilting design… lovely swirly pattern that stitches out very quickly!
Then onto the hand binding. I must say I really struggled with the hand binding on this one…. In fact after one evening of hand binding struggles, I have actually machine bound my next three projects! Unheard of for me!
But I did finally get back to, and finished, the binding.
And yes, with all that orange in this quilt, this one is definitely earmarked for a gift for a special someone!
If you would like to make this pattern, it is a free one available from the Ruby Star Society website.
Love the quilt! Such a simple layout with quite the impact! The quilting is fabulous also.
Thanks Rachel! I am starting to embrace simple but gorgeous lately! Complex just takes soooo much time! Have a great day!
