Sew My Precious Sew Along

By March 17, 2020March 21st, 2020blog, sewmyprecious

Hi, my name is Anne and I am a fabricaholic.

Yep, I admit it. But in my defense, fabric is beautiful and lovely and it can be MADE into the most awesome creations!

I have been working on using my stash quite a bit more this year…

However there are a few projects using some of my most treasured and precious fabrics that I have been wanting to do for AGES…. and I have decided that NOW is the time!

Do you have a stash of some gorgeous fabrics that you have felt is just too precious for just any old project?

Are there some fabrics that you feel you just cannot cut into?

Well, if this is you, then I hope I can convince you to MAKE something with them!

Beautiful fabrics sitting on a shelf (albeit being admired by you) look sooooo much better being used up in a quilt or bag or garment or wall hanging or gift for a friend.

So I am urging us all to #sewmyprecious !

Sew with your precious fabrics. Cut into them and make something with love.

If you are anything like me you have also been collecting beautiful patterns as well as fabric…. NOW is the time to open one of them up, get out that precious, beautiful fabric and MAKE SOMETHING!

This is sort of a sewalong…. not that we will be using the same fabrics or even the same pattern, but joining in together to make some beautiful things in this less than beautiful time in our world.

Sewing always makes me feel better, more calm, more centred. And having a plan and a goal gives me something to focus on rather than lots of negative, and frankly, quite scary things.

So, I am going to get out ALL of my Tula Pink fabric stash and finally make the Cross Plus quilt that I have been wanting to do for sooooo long now.

It isn’t going to be a quick finish project for me…. this will be a slow, at best a block a week, kind of project.

And my plan is 49 blocks….. so it is going to take me a year from start to finish. At least!

I was inspired by a quilt top that Angie from Gnomeangel made ages ago (yep, it’s been on my mind THAT long!)

I want to enjoy the process. Not be rushing to finish and photograph and blog and Instagram it. To just make and create and have fun with mixing the fabrics from the different lines. To do some fussy cutting. To just have some fun.

And yes, I will still be blogging about it and posting on Instagram with the hashtag #sewmyprecious so everyone can see what I am up to!

Would you like to join me? Would you like to create something with some beautiful fabrics?

What fabrics have you got in your stash that you could #sewmyprecious with me?

What pattern have you been hankering to finally get around to making?

Comment below (or on Instagram or Facebook) with what you would like to make along with me.

Anne, I love your designs, fabrics and spirt. I would love to join into the #sewmyprecious QAL I’ve recently made so many masks for family and community that I’d love working on a new quilt.

Thank you Paula! I think starting a project with some much loved fabrics will be a lovely break for you from sewing masks. It is so great that we can help by making masks for our loved ones, but the reason we need them is heartbreaking. Thinking of you and your family xx

I love your blocks Anne and the design you are using has been on my to do list now for a couple of years.

Thanks Heather! It is a very versatile block pattern! Fabric placement can make the block look totally different 🙂 Hope you get to it one day!
