Jane Austen’s Barton House quilt

By May 4, 2024blog

My sister-in-law is an English Literature teacher and she LOVES all things Jane Austen!

She has visited Jane Austen’s house in England and enjoys teaching her works whenever she can.

So when it came time to make my SIL a quilt, the Barton Cottage quilt from the Riley Blake Jane Austen series was just a no brainer!! And it comes in the most amazing magnetic box that looks like a Jane Austen book! A perfect place to hide Jane Austen keepsakes (or a chocolate stash!).

Whilst the fabrics are not my favourite, they are traditional and inspired by the original coverlet that Jane Austen made during her life.

There is lots more information about how Riley Blake Designs came to reproduce the Jane Austen fabrics and the quilt / coverlet that inspired it! Head to the Riley Blake Designs website to read more about it.

The quilt kit for Sense and Sensibility was of Barton Cottage and this was the one I made for my SIL.

It was fun to make and came together quite quickly (which was good, as birthdays are a deadline that can’t change!)

The fabric on the back has Jane’s writings and music on it! Though, we might need a magnifying glass to read much of it!

My SIL will hate me popping a picture of her up here, but I was just so happy that she was thrilled with the quilt!

The quilting was an all over design of leaves…. I thought of a vine creeping up Barton Cottage!

As there are more quilt kits coming in the Jane Austen collection, I see more of them being made in the future!
