FQS Jolly Bar Bonbons Quilt

By February 22, 2019July 25th, 2019blog

The Fat Quarter Shop has created yet another great quilt pattern, the Jolly Bar Bonbons Quilt, using their Jolly Bars! [A Jolly Bar if you haven’t seen one is a half a layer cake. 42 pieces of a fabric line 5″ x 10″. FQS release these in most of the Moda fabric lines]

I have been hankering to play with one of these, so this was the perfect opportunity! I selected Bloomsbury by Franny & Jane – the blues in this line are just gorgeous!

The Jolly Bar Bonbons Quilt is a great, easy pattern, that looks stunning in varying lines (just check out all the other makers who participated in this quilt along!) AND has lots of negative space for me to play around with my quilting on my Bernina Q24!

Yes, I had some fun doing this one! It is a bit hard to pick up in this picture, but I used a coral thread for the very centre quilting as well.

Instead of just randomly placing the blocks, I took advantage of the different colours in the Bloomsbury fabric line and had rings of dark blue, light blue and then the corals in the middle. I do like things to be ordered!

The light in the veggie garden really shows up the quilting! (the @thefabrichusband has been VERY busy in the garden!)

And, of course, I couldn’t just do a single sided quilt now could I?!

As I had a matching Bloomsbury charm pack, I thought the Moda Love quilt would be perfect! With some extra borders around it to make sure I used up EVERY piece of the charm pack and the jolly bar!

I used Moda Bella zen grey for the background of the Bonbons Quilt and for the ‘back’ I used one of my favourite Spotlight light grey shot cottons…. perfectly soft for a quilt backing!

So head on over to the Fat Quarter Shop blog to check out all the other version of the Jolly Bar Bonbons Quilt and when you put your next order into the FQS, check out the Jolly Bar section!
