2024 that is a wrap!

By January 5, 2025blog

I like looking back at the end of a year to remind myself of all the things I have made…sometimes it feels like I didn’t get very much made, but inevitably when I add up all the little bits and bobs throughout the year I am surprised!

Not as many little projects this year but quite a few big ones!

We hosted the Edelweiss Sewalong which was so much fun and the finished quilt I loved so much I have given it to my wonderful niece Tegan for Christmas and she was thrilled!

The dark navy background with the Shoreline fabric and flowers were just perfect and I am thinking there needs to be more navy background quilts in my future!

A Year Of Hearts saw 14 different block patterns released that actually had 21 different blocks in them!

Two layout options have been released and the more complex layout will be released in 2025 as well as all the blocks made into a single pattern.

This Block of the Month released to my newsletter subscribers for free for the first few days of each month was a labour of love and I thoroughly enjoyed creating and making these blocks! I just finished my Sashing Layout version in the first few days of 2025 but I am counting in my 2024 recap.

For Stitch Pink in 2024 we did a sewalong of my new pattern A Side Of Hearts (yes, hearts were definitely the theme to this year!) and I am so happy to say that I have FINALLY finished and bound my cover version of this quilt!

Colour coordinated scappy binding all the way around the edge of the quilt took a little bit of time, but I think it was worth it! The second version of this quilt is just waiting for its binding, so a reveal picture will have to wait!

And whilst I was on a roll with heart quilt patterns, the Hearty Patches quilt pattern was very popular when I released it earlier in 2024.

An easy layer cake quilt that looks fabulous in any collection!

I made two versions of the Hearty Patches quilt and I love them both… the Nantucket Summer quilt is a favourite, but the Sweetwater Vintage version is my snuggling quilt out in our sunroom.

And there is a matching cushion to go with the Hearty Patches pattern – it uses up the left over pieces from the quilt to make it a zero waste pattern.

I am hoping to update the Hearty Patches PDF pattern for those who have purchased it as soon as I have it finally written. For a small cushion it has been a complex pattern to write!

On a personal note I finished up a WIP from 2023 from the Ruby Star Society Summer Sewalong and I gave it to a lovely lady whom I have never met in person, only know from Instagram, and she loved getting a quilt from a perfect stranger! : D

Some people just deserve quilts, you know?!

I finished up the Moda Love Star quilt using up my Little Miss Sunshine fabric stash – this one hasn’t found it’s owner yet, it is sitting on a quilt ladder in our home awaiting the right person to come along!

The gorgeous Heartfelt Quilt kit from the Fat Quarter Shop, the one I had literally just started cutting out the day I broke my wrist for the first time back late 2022, is also finally finished!

I love this one. It is pretty large so I am thinking this winter it might start being on our bed.

The second make of my Rainbow Slider jelly roll pattern was using Bonnie and Camille fabrics and this one has been given to a lovely lady who lives in the retirement village with my folks – she was thrilled to receive it!

Riley Blake Designs have been releasing a fabric collection and quilt kit for each of Jane Austen’s novels and my sister-in-law is an English teacher who loves Jane Austen!

So I just had to make her the Sense and Sensibility quilt kit of Barton Cottage. She was thrilled!

As I had a few in-person events to attend and have little pop up shops at in 2024, I decided to make a Said With Love market table cloth…. all scrappy low volume with the name Said With Love and a few hearts. I love it!

And the highlight of the year was my Quilt Coat! Made during a class at Australian Quilt Convention with Lorena Uriarte, I was thrilled with my coat. Parading it for the delegates on the Friday night after our two day class was just so much fun and people now recognise me when I wear my coat!

There were also a few last minute Christmas gifts for family including this Aeroplane bag (pattern by Sew Sweetness) for my Dad.

The fabric is A Field Guide by Janet Clare and has some cork fabric around the base to give some extra stability… and pockets galore!

There were also some pillowcases which I will be doing a video tutorial on, as they are a great stash buster and so useful!

There are quite a few projects that are just waiting to be quilted, so I am hoping that the beginning of 2025 will have lots of finishes in it!

It will be nice to have a few quick finishes in January : )

  • The second A Side of Hearts quilt
  • a huge Shortcake quilt in Ambleside fabric for our guest bed
  • my Nantucket double sided stunner (a patchwork swoon on one side and Camille’s hideaway pattern on the other)
  • my first EPP quilt made from Confection Batiks will be free motioned by me (it is a small one and I think my wrist will hold up)
  • I have a new pattern that will be coming out in Make Modern Magazine this year (you can subscribe here so you don’t miss it!) that just needs quilting and
  • last but not least a farm country version of my Charm Framed pattern.

So that is a wrap for 2024… we are almost a week into 2025 and I almost feel ready for it now!

Happy New Year everyone!
